SL to ban trawl fishing by mechanized boats
Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Mahinda Amaraweera will present a bill in Parliament to ban trawl fishing operations using mechanized boats within Sri Lankan territorial waters.
The Minister had sought approval at yesterday's Cabinet meeting to present the bill drafted to amend the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Act No. 2 of 1996 to prohibit trawl fishing. The proposal was approved by Cabinet.
