The government will seek assistance from India to secure the release of nine Sri Lankan sailors who are being held by Yemeni pirates aboard the Greek Vessel named Fair Appollon which is anchored in the Yemeni port of Hodeidah, Deputy Foreign Minister Harsha De Silva told Parliament today.
He said that the nine Lankan sailors were among a group of 26 who are being forcibly held by Yemeni pirates for more than two months.
The Sri Lankan Embassy in Oman has reported that a dispute between the buyer and supplier of goods on the ship has led to the detention of the sailors.
The Deputy Minister made this disclosure in response to a query made by UPFA MP Dinesh Gunawardena.
