The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) which convened a central committee meeting under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Aug 26) decided to make changes to certain positions in the party.
Accordingly, MP Lasantha Alagiyawanna will replace S.B. Dissanayake as Treasurer while MP Weerakumara Dissanayake will replace MP Mahinda Samarasinghe as party spokesman.
In addition, former party general secretary Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa has been promoted to the post of Vice Chairman of the SLFP.
Meanwhile, the SLFP Central Committee has also decided to take disciplinary action against its national list parliamentarians who have supported other parties.
The party has also decided to continue disciplinary inquiries on their provincial council members who have displayed ethical misconduct.
It is reported that President Maithripala Sirisena had told his party members that there was no need to discuss about the presidential elections since neither the date of the polls have been announced nor has the Elections Commission called for nominations.
A senior party member said that matters concerning the SLFP's 68th annual convention which is scheduled to take place on September 3 had figured prominently during the meeting.
