The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will contest under a common banner at the upcoming elections, the SLFP announced today (Jul 4).
Accordingly both parties will contest under an alliance called the 'Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Peramuna', MP Mahinda Amaraweera told a news conference this afternoon.
He added that this name had been chosen after studying a request made by the SLPP in this regard.
However, Mr. Amaraweera noted that no decision has been taken so far refarding the presidential candidate which will be put forward by this common alliance.
Both parties had exchanged a set of proposals concerning the alliance late last month.
