The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will set out certain conditions to form an alliance with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), during tomorrow’s meeting between both parties.
Mahinda Amaraweera, General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) in which the SLFP is a constituent party, said that among these conditions is to limit the number of cabinet ministers to 30 if voted into power.
Also among the conditions which would be set-out by the SLFP is to implement a five-year economic policy agreeable by both parties and to establish a new court to hear corruption and fraud cases, he said.
Mr. Amaraweera noted that the agreement to form the alliance would be signed by next week if their alliance party agrees to these conditions which would be put forward tomorrow.
The SLFP has been engaging in talks with the SLPP to form an alliance named the 'Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Peramuna' in order to contest the upcoming elections jointly.
The UPFA General Secretary also stated that his fraction is in agreement with the SLPP's decision to nominate former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as its presidential candidate.
Meanwhile, the SLFP is set to meet this evening under their leader President Maithripala Sirisena at his official residence to discuss matters concerning the presidential polls and the alliance.
