The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will make a decision on matters concerning the presidential election on October 5, party spokesman Weerakumara Dissanayake said.
He made these remarks following the party's Central Committee meeting convened by SLFP leader President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Sept 30). The meeting lasted about three hours.
Mr. Dissanayake said that the proposed alliance with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the SLFP's demand to establish a common symbol for the alliance had been discussed extensively at the meeting.
So far, the SLPP has not responded positively and has been insisted on contesting under its flower bud symbol at the presidential election - a move which has met with the dissatisfaction of the SLFP.
Accordingly, final matters concerning the alliance would be made during the SLFP Central Committee meeting scheduled to be held on October 5, he said.
