Workers of telco giant Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) will be launching a sick note campaign from midnight (September 20) and threatens to run till Sunday September 24 as the SLT top management has failed to fulfill six demands put forward by them, a leader of the SLT trade union said.
The decision came after discussion between SLT Chairman P. G. Kumarasingha and representatives of seven trade unions ended in dead lock this afternoon; he said adding that a heated argument took place when Mr. Kumarasingha refused to respond to the allegations of corruption and mismanagement.
According to SLT trade union sources, the present administration headed by the CEO has failed to properly manage the institution and the management has failed to direct the company towards higher levels of growth.
This trade union action has no connection whatsoever with the ongoing CEB strike, a SLT Engineers union spokesman said.
SLT CEO Dileepa Wijesundera is away from the island in Ireland at present.
The SLT trade union front has demanded the management to appoint a committee within five day to inquire into reasons behind the set back of telco giant and make recommendations to resurrect the institution within a month.
It has also demanded to immediately stop heavy investments leading to financial instability of the institution and unproductive operations and halt the present restructuring process in the administrative structure and conduct a prompt investigation into financial frauds in the institution through unsuccessful projects.(Bandula)
