Rs 30 million in revenue was earned from the Southern Expressway during this Avurudu season, the Road Development Authority (RDA) Director (Expressway Operations Maintenance and Management Division) S Opanayake said.
He pointed out that this year's earnings from the expressway tolls had risen between 8 - 10 percent in comparison to the previous years.
Meanwhile, Mr. Opanayake observed that the number of accidents along the Southern Expressway had also increased this year. These accidents were caused by those who were using the expressway for the first time, he said.
"Vehicles travelling over the 100 mph maximum speed limit had been involved in mishaps while applying sudden brakes," the RDA Director said. He insisted that drivers must pay attention towards maintaining a normal speed limit while using the highway.
Director Opanayake pointed out that vehicles using the highway must not stop in case of witnessing another vehicle being involved in an accident.
