The prevailing petrol crisis has resulted in a significant loss of revenue for the Southern Expressway, officials from its Management and Operations Division revealed.
Officials said daily revenue on the expressway has fallen by as much as 20 percent during the past few days, as fewer vehicles were using the expressway owing to the crisis.
An analysis of revenue records from the expressway's Godagama Interchange shows that normal daily revenue of the expressway is about Rs. 1.6 million. This figure has fallen to below Rs. 1.1 million during the days of the petrol crisis.
