Spanish tourist dies following tragic accident in Karuwalagasweva

A Spanish woman was killed in a tragic accident involving in a three-wheeler in Karuwalagasweva last afternoon, Police said.

The accident had occurred when the victim, Corera Anna Maria, 36, was on a holiday tour in the country along with her fiancé. Karuwalagasweva police said the duo were travelling from Colombo to Anuradhapura at the time of the accident.

Police also said the three wheeler, which was being driven by the victim had veered off the road failing to make a turn.

It is reported that the woman was not taken to the hospital since a large number of people who were gathered around the victim were shooting pictures and videos of the accident. However, she was ultimately rushed to the Puttalam hospital by another couple who were passing by on a three-wheeler.

A team of police personnel headed by OIC K.D.S. Jayalath and a sergeant of the Karuwalagasweva police are investigating into the accident.

The post-mortem examination on the body of the victim will be carried out at the Puttalam hospital.
