Speaker Karu Jayasuriya in a strongly worded letter to all foreign missions has said that he was not consulted by President Maithripala Sirisena before proroging Parliament.
He also added that he requested the President on numerous occasions to summon Parliament.
The letter also noted that Ranil Wickremesinghe will continue to be accepted as the legitimate Prime Minister of the country along with the previous cabinet.
Speaker Jayasuriya further added that the "entire matter was pre-planned" while accusing President Sirisena of acting "contrary to all norms of transparency, decency, democracy and good governance, and contrary to the constitution which he has sworn to uphold and defend."
