Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has requested the Government and Opposition to nominate the names of MPs to serve on Parliamentary Committees including the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) and Ministerial Consultative Committees as early as possible. The Speaker made the request when Parliament's Committee of Selection met last evening (21).
It was also decided at yesterday's meeting to announce the names of the MPs who will serve on Parliament's Committee on High Posts on Thursday (23), Parliament's Department of Communication stated.
Members also discussed the possibility of setting up COPE, COPA and other committees quickly after obtaining the names of MPs who will serve on them.
The Committee meeting, presided over by the Speaker, was attended by Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardena, Chief Government Whip Johnston Fernando, Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and MPs John Amaratunga, Mano Ganesan and Niroshan Perera.
