Against the backdrop President Maithripala Sirisena issuing a gazette notification last evening summoning Parliament on November 14, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has released a firm statement explaing that based on a verbal assurance by the President that he would summon Parliament on November 7 that he acted accordingly.
Further the Speaker said in his statement that it was the current majority view that the changes that have taken place in the last few days are against the constitution and unless and until a new faction is capable of showing a majority in Parliament, he is compelled to accept the situation that existed before the change.
