In a bid to prevent infiltration of anti-national elements and smugglers from other countries, especially Sri Lanka, Coastal Marine Police today launched a special beach bike for patrolling between Pamban and Arichal Munai areas, the Press Trust of India reported. "The special bike has been pressed into service to prevent infiltration of anti-national elements and smugglers from other countries, especially from Sri Lanka," Additional Superintendent of Police Gnana Sivakumar, who launched the service, told reporters in Rameswaram. The bike, with a top speed of 100 km per hour, has been introduced to enhance coastal security following threats from terrorist elements, he said Sivakumar said the bike will also warn tourists against the rough sea if they ventured into it. Patrolling would be done in the morning and evening, while that during night would be as per instructions, he said.
