A special mobile service is to be implemented to provide identity cards to people who do not possess national identity cards, an official at the Department of Registration of Persons was quoted as sayingto local media. Commissioner General of the Department, R.M.S. Sarath Kumara says that this mobile service is already operational in the districts of Moneragala and Gampaha. The Commissioner General of the Department of Registration of Persons says that all persons who have submitted applications for their national identity card, will receive their NIC before the general election. The Commissioner General was quoted as saying the public could fax the department to receive information regarding their applications for NICs. Sarath Kumara said that a person will not be able to exercise his vote if he or she does not possess an NIC, or a valid and accepted identification document.
