Over 1000 suspects who had warrants out for their arrest were taken into custody during a special island-wide operation launched jointly by the police and Special Task Force (STF) from 11.00pm yesterday till 3.00am today (27).
Police Media Unit stated that 1014 suspects who had warrants out for their arrest, 106 persons wanted in connection for various crimes, as well as 657 other suspects were taken into custody during the raids. Police also seized eight illegal firearms while 949 cases were filed against drunk drivers. Police also filed 2937 cases related to other traffic offences.
In addition, 1118 raids were conducted island-wide to nab narcotics and liquor. A total of 131.11 grams of heroin, 11.35 grams of Ganja, 2232 litres of illicit liquor, 29 grams of other drugs and 7983 litres of other liquor were taken into custody during the raids.
