A special 15-member commission appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena to review existing salary structures of public sector employees and make recommendations towards this end will hold its first meeting at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo today, the President’s office announced.
The commission will review its task and mandate while allocating the subject fields among the 15 members at the inaugural meeting,
The recent strike of railway workers prompted the government to set up this special commission to formulate new salary structure and make recommendations on the possibility of increasing salaries of entire public sector settling salary anomalies of all government servants including the railway workers.
H.G. Sumanasinghe has been appointed as the secretary to the Commission.
The railway workers have decided to resume their strike with effect from Wednesday August 29 as the meeting held between the President and trade union representatives ended in a deadlock on Thursday (August 23), a leader of the Railway Guards Union said. (Bandula)
