Special traffic plan in Marine Drive, Galle Road from tomorrow

A special traffic plan will be in place along Marine Drive and Galle Road due to the Bohra Global Conference, starting from August 31 until September 10.

Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said that a trial run of the traffic plan will be in effect from 7 - 9 am and 4 - 6 pm tomorrow (Aug 30).

Accordingly, vehicles travelling from Wellawatte to Kollupitiya have been instructed to take the right turn onto Haig Road and reach their destination by travelling through Galle Road.

Vehicles travelling from Kollupitiya to Wellawatte would have take the left turn onto Palmyrah Avenue and travel through Galle Road.

Meanwhile, those travelling in buses to and from the Bambalapitiya Railway Station will able to board their buses opposite Station Road, the police spokesman said.

In addition vehicles heading towards Colombo from Moratuwa through Galle Road have been advised to use the following alternative routes ;

  • Take the right turn to Attidiya Road from Ratmalana, pass through Pepiliyana, Kohuwala, Pamankada and reach Colombo from Havelock Road
  • Take the right turn to Bellanwila Road from Dehiwala Juntion pass through Bellanwila junction, Pepiliyana, Kohuwala, Pamankada and reach Colombo
  • Take the right turn to Kalubowila Road from Dehiwala and head towards Colombo
  • Take the right turn to W. A. Silva Mawatha from the Wellawatte Junction pass through Pamankada, Havelock Road and reach Colombo.

Police Spokesman Gunasekara urged the public to refrain from parking their vehicles in the by roads leading to Marine Drive and Duplication Road to avoid traffic condition.

Further, he also requested vehicles heading towards Colombo to use the Galle Road as much as possible and vehicles leaving Colombo to use the Duplication Road.
