A special vehicle search operation will be carried out from today onwards in the vicinity of nightclubs, Motor Traffic DIG Ajith Rohana said yesterday (Mar 10).
The operation aims to apprehend suspects involved in drunk driving offences, the DIG told a news conference while pointing out that the time has now come to draw curtains on driving defender jeeps while being under the influence of liquor.
"Research has shown that motorcyslists are the ones who fall victims to most accidents only to be followed by pedestrians, pillion riders and three-wheel drivers," Mr. Rohana noted.
Speaking further he said that the law would be enforced to its fullest extent on suspects who are caught driving after having consumed liquor.
On the same lines DIG Rohana said that these suspects would be produced before courts by the police seeking a temporary ban on their driving licenses until the final verdict is announced. Measures would also be taken to permanently cancel the licenses of those who are found guilty by the courts.
