A demonstration of a pilot project aimed at introducing a specialised stencil to aid visually handicapped voters when marking their ballots at the 2020 parliamentary election was conducted at the Nuwara Eliya District Secretariat on August 2 in the presence of Nuwara Eliya District Secretary and the district Assistant Elections Commissioner.
A group of visually handicapped voters and elderly voters took part in the demonstration.
The pilot project using the specialised stencil will be tried out at several selected polling centres in the Nuwara-Eliya-Maskeliya electorate during tomorrow's election.
Voters who are fully or partially blind, those who have handicapped vision, elderly voters and voters who have limited use of their hands will be able to use the stencil when voting at these centres.
