One-time T20 world cup champions Sri Lanka have failed to obtain direct qualification for the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 that is scheduled to be held in Australia.
This was announced when the International Cricket Council (ICC) released its list of countries which had directly qualified to take part in the tournament.
Accordingly, Pakistan, India, England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, West Indies and Afghanistan have already booked eight slots of the Super 12 stage in the tournament.
Six other teams including Sri Lanka will face each other in a bid to secure their place in the Super 12 round.
The qualification matches will run from October 18 until November 15.
Sri Lanka has been ranked ninth according to the latest ICC T20 International rankings.
