Sri Lanka signed two MoUs with Cambodia relating to trade and diplomatic matters today (Aug 8), the President's office said.
State Foreign Affairs Minister Wasantha Senanayake had signed the agreement on developing diplomatic relations between the two countries with the Cambodian Foreign Secretary.
While the Chairman from the Chambers of Commerce of both countries inked an agreement to set-up the Sri Lanka - Cambodia National Council.
According to the President's office, the documents had been signed following President Maithripala Sirisena's talks with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at the latter’s office known as the Peace Palace.
During the discussion, special attention had been drawn towards measures which should be taken to establish an airline service between both countries and to uplift the tourism and trade sectors.
Talks had also revolved around introducing educational and youth exchange programmes to improve the co-operation of both states in terms of economy and trade.
The President's office stated that the leaders had also discussed to set up foreign missions in each of their respective countries since no such efforts have been taken so far.
Accordingly, President Sirisena had said that he would instruct the Foreign Ministry to take steps to establish foreign missions in a bid to enhance connectivity between the two countries.
Mr Sirisena had also stated that his foreign policy has been that no country should interfere into the matters of another state.
The Sri Lankan President had taken wing to Cambodia on a four-day visit on August 7 upon an invitation extended by its government.
