Sri Lanka has been ranked second in the Global Climate Risk Index (GCRI) 2019 among the countries most affected by extreme weather events since 1998 to 2017.
The GCRI was released at the annual climate summit in Poland's Katowice city yesterday (Dec 05).
The index is prepared following an analysis on the magnitude of negative impact that countries have had to face as a result of natural disasters.
Puerto Rico topped the list with a death toll of 2978 and losses amounting to over 80,000 US$ while Sri Lanka was ranked second with a death toll of 246 with losses just over 3129 US$.
