A freighter reported to be sailing under the Sri Lankan flag was hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean on Monday, officials confirmed. The Dubai-owned 'Aris 13' was carrying fuel. The Senior Habor Master in Colombo, Captain Nimal Silva said they were aware of the incident and were making inquires.
Harbor sources said that the 'Aris 13' last called at a Sri Lankan port on January 28 and was not scheduled to reach Sri Lanka on its current journey.
Shipping registeries however, lists 'Aris 13' as flying under the Comoros flag.
