Sri Lankan leaders have conveyed their congratulations to Boris Johnson, who assumed office as Prime Minister of Britain yesterday (Jul 23).
President Maithripala Sirisena, on his official twitter handle, had said he hopes to work with Johnson in a bid to further strengthen the bilateral ties between both countries.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in a letter addressed to his newly-elected Britain counterpart, had said that he hopes to take part in a discussion with him at the earliest.
Wickremesinghe had pointed out that the UK remains as Sri Lanka’s second-largest export market and the third biggest source of origin for tourism.
While pointing out the relationships that have existed between both countries in various aspects, the Prime Minister had said he was confident that these ties would be further strengthened under the leadership of Johnson.
