Police have asked members of the public to remain in their houses during the period that an island-wide curfew is in effect from 6pm today (20) till 6am on Monday (23).
Issuing a media release, Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne states that the curfew is being imposed to prevent prevent persons from violating regulations imposed under the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance to prevent the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) in the country.
Members of the public are required to stay in their houses during the period the curfew is in effect. Those from essential services and the media are allowed to travel during this time by producing the identity card issued to them by their respective offices. These identity cards can serve as their curfew passes. Those traveling to the Katunayake Airport can do so by producing their airline tickets, which will serve as curfew passes, the Acting IGP further said.
