Extremely strong winds and very rough seas can cause danger to fishing vessels, warned the Meteorology Department.
“Wind speed can increase up to (60-70) kmph in the deep and shallow sea areas extending from Hambanthota to Pottuvil and from Puttalam to Kankasanturai via Mannar. These sea areas can be rough or very rough at times. It will be dangerous to venture into these sea areas until October 16 morning,” the Department’s Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre said in its weather advisory.
Heavy rains or thundershowers can occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North western provinces and Galle and Matara districts.
“Fairly heavy rainfalls above 75mm are likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Nuwara-eliya, Kandy, Galle and Matara districts,” the Department said.
