Students following apprenticeship under the 13-Year Compulsory Education system will be granted an allowance of Rs 500 from today (Aug 20), Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.
An event will be held to launch the project at the Education Ministry during which allowances will be distributed among 1600 students who are undergoing training across 100 institutes.
The Ministry of Education had obtained cabinet approval to grant the daily travel and food allowance since some students would have to pay to travel to locations away from their village, to attend the training programme.
