A group of students and parents today (Jan 14) staged a protest against the transfer of teachers who taught several subjects including aesthetics at the Ovilikanda Maha Vidyalaya in Matala.
The protestors claimed that the students were severely inconvenienced due to the transfer of teachers who taught aesthetic subjects.
They also alleged that certain officials had intentionally attempted to disrupt the activities of the school even in the recent past.
However, the protestors had called off the protest following a directive issued to the Principal of the school by the Director of Education in the Matale District. The instruction was issued following the intervention of Matale Police Inspector Wasantha Kumara.
Our area correspondent said that the Principal of the school had attributed the reason for the transfer to an excess amount of teachers being available for certain subjects.
The Principal had also claimed that it was the right of the teachers to be provided a transfer instead of remaining in the same school for a longer period of time.
