A woman who had defrauded money from a youth by promising to provide foreign employment has been remanded until August 22.
The suspect is alleged to have obtained Rs 500,000 from a youth in Pannipitiya by promising employment in New Zealand.
Following a complaint filed at the foreign employment bureau stating that the woman had not provided employment as promised, bureau officers had apprehended the woman identified as R. Priyangani Ranasinghe, and her assistant Chanaka Nanayakkara in Kottawa.
Six foreign passports and other documents relating to foreign employment had been recovered at the time of the arrest. Investigations have revaled that six court cases had been filed against the suspect for defraduing various persons.
She had been ordered to be remanded by the Gangodawila Magistrate's court.
