A suspect who had allegedly maintained close links with the main Easter Sunday suicide bomber has been arrested in Peradeniya today (Jul 9), police said.
M.M. Ashif, 29, had been taken into custody at his residence in Hedeniya, Kandy by officers attached to the Terrorist Investigations Division (TID).
Details concerning the suspect had been revealed by certain suspects who were arrested in connection with the bombings, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He added that Ashif had received training with chief bomber Mohamed Zahran at a training facility in Aruppola, Kandy.
Two other close associates of Zahran who were arrested last month were handed over the TID for further investigations today.
