A discussion is to be held next week on the demands of non-academic staffers at state universities, Higher Education Ministry Secretary P K Mayadunne said.
Ministry officials had held talks with representatives of 20 unions which are currently engaged in an indefinite strike over salary anomalies.
However, it is believed to have ended in a stalemate.
The strike which is in its fifth day has resulted in lectures and exams being postponed in some state universities.
