Sri Lanka Tea Board Chairman Dr. Rohan Pethiyagoda this (Friday) morning tendered his resignation.
He is believed to have made this decision in October last year when he expressed such a desire to Plantation Minister Navin Dissanayake to give way for "fresh thinking," official sources said, adding that the move was unconnected to the recent local government elections.
Dr. Pethiyagoda will continue to serve until around March 6 till such time a new appointment is made and until the next board meeting of the tea board.
He is expected to return to his academic work but also continue his fight against the ban on glyphosate, another issue in which he was unhappy about. (Sunimalee)
