Ten persons including two police inspectors have been hospitalised after being assaulted in Kantale yesterday (Apr 15).
The assault was carried out using glass bottles by a group of people who were drunk at the time of the incident.
The mob had carried out the assault when the families of the two inspectors were bathing in the Kantale river. Upon being informed regarding the incident, both inspectors attached to the Kantale police division had arrived at the area to take necessary action, but were assaulted.
Two suspects including Kantale Pradeshiya Sabha member Jayalath Kodagoda have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.
The other suspect, a 24-year old is being treated under police custody at the Kantale hospital, police said.
