Tensions flared at the Akmeemana Pradeshiya Sabha today (Nov 21) when an argument broke out between the UNP and UPFA councillors.
The tense situation arose when UPFA councillors had brought posters into the chamber protesting against Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
At the same time the councillors representing the UNP were clad in black to protest against the President's actions in the recent past. Reports suggested that the concillors descended into fistcuffs at one point
Meanwhile the Balapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha also descended into tensions when UPFA members wore black arms bands. The UPFA claimed they wore arm bands to protest against the actions of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
