A massive protest has been launched by villagers in Tangalle against the Katuwana Police.
An illegal liquor distillery was raided by a group of Police officers and during the raid, a 50-year-old man had died following the ensuing scuffle.
The tensions began when villagers had surrounded the Katuwana Police station to protest the death of a local villager.
It is reported that some of the provoked villagers have attacked the police with stones. Tires too had been burnt and additional security had been requested from the STF as well as other surrounding police stations.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
