The Thalassemia treatment unit of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital was temporarily closed down by the hospital authorities today (21) after medical reports of a worker attached to the unit confirmed that she has been infected with the corona virus.
Subsequently, steps were taken for the staff and patients receiving treatment at the unit to be subjected to PCR tests.
The infected worker is a 40-year-old person living in the Kuliyapitiya area. This is the first time a staff member of the Kurunegala Hospital was found infected with the virus, hospital sources said.
