Thieves caught with 100 mobiles, laptops

Two suspected thieves have been taken into police custody with a host of items including 100 mobile phones and eight laptop computers. 

Police Media Unit said a suspect was arrested with 1.2 grams of heroin yesterday from Dehiwala by officers from the Mirihana Anti-Vice Squad. 

Based on information obtained from him, police then arrested another suspect from Panadura. The two suspects had allegedly been engaged in a robbery spree carried out over many months, according to police. Investigations led police to a variety of items thought to have been stolen by the suspects. 

In addition to the eight laptops and 100 mobiles, police also recovered five wristwatches, three gold chains, a bicycle, ready-made garments and shoes from the suspects possession. 

The suspects, aged 37 and 41 years, are residents of Dehiwala and Panadura. They are due to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court today.
