While the Government has now given fishermen permission to go out to sea and fish even during curfew, many fishermen cannot do so as they have not been able to find fuel needed for their boats.
While some fishing boats from the Marawila to Chilaw coast set out to sea in the early hours of this morning (26), a significant number were still seen on the shore as the fishermen could not find fuel to power their boats.
Fishermen also pointed out that even those who were able to go out to sea were finding it difficult to sell their catch as traders and customers were not coming due to curfew. As such, many are forced to take the fish home for their own consumption.
