Police have recovered 192 kilograms of heroin and arrested three suspects in a major operation conducted in Bandaragama this morning (30).
Police had initially stopped a vehicle at the Bandaragama Exit of the Southern Expressway. Officers found 15 kilograms of heroin hidden inside the car and arrested three suspects - two females and one male.
Upon interrogation, the suspects led police to a house in Bandaragama, where they recovered a further 177 kilograms of heroin bringing the total amout of heroin recovered in the drug bust to 192 kilograms.
Police also found 10 pistols and 19 magazines hidden inside the house.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Peliyagoda Special Investigation Division.
Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon along with state minister defence inspected the detected items at the Peliyagoda Police.
Senior DIG Tennakoon said this was one of the biggest detections in the recent months . He said among the pistols detected are those manufactured in China, Pakistan, US and Austria. They are modern weapons similar to those used by security forces
