Three bench trial-at-bar to hear Vidya murder case

Chief Justice Priyasath Dep yesterday appointed a three member trial-at-bar at the Jaffna High Court to hear the case into the gang rape and murder of Sivalokananthan Vidya, a student from Punkuduthivu. 

Accordingly, he has appointed Vavuniya High Court Judge Balasingham Shashi Mahendran (Chairman) Jaffna High Judge M. Illancheyalan and Trincomalee High Court Judge Annalingam Premshankar to the trial-at-bar. 

Nine suspects who were arrested in connection with the case and currently in remand have already been served indictments on 41 criminal charges.   

Vidya, who was 18 at the time, was abducted, gang raped and later murdered at Punkuthudivu on May 18, 2015.
