Two people have died while one has been critically injured in a mishap involving a van and a three-wheeler along the Kandalama Road in Dambulla last evening.
The deceased, identified as siblings Chamath Kalhara and Sanduni Amarasinghe, were travelling in the three-wheeler at the time of the accident and had died while receiving treatment at the Dambulla hospital. They are residents of Lenawa, Dambulla.
Meanwhile, the father of the children, Nimal Amarasinghe, is currently receiving treatment at the Dambulla Denzil Kobbekaduwa Hospital.
Police have arrested the driver of the van while carrying out further investigations into the incident.
Another accident which claimed the life of a woman was reported along the Polonnaruwa Road in Dambulla yesterday (Apr 16). The accident had occured when a motorcycle driven by the woman had collided with another motorcyle in the Inamaluwa area.
The victims were immediately rushed to the Dambulla hospital before the woman had succumbed to her injuries afterwards. The deceased has been identified as Kumari Wijetunga, a 26-year old resident of Inamaluwa.
The injured victim is currently being treated at the Dambulla Hospital.
Sigiriya Police are investigating further into the incident.
