Two Sri Lankans and a Pakistani national were arrested while attempting to smuggle a stock of foreign cigarettes worth over Rs 4 million into the country today (Feb 22).
The suspects were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport upon their arrival into the country.
Customs officials said that the Pakistani national was arrested initially following which the two Sri Lankans were taken into custody.
A stock of 73,000 cigarettes were seized from the possession of the suspects, customs officials at the airport added.
The Sri Lankan suspects have been identified as residents of Kandy and Modara.
