Twelve navy personnels were injured after being attacked by area residents and illegal sand miners in Kinniya.
Accordingly, police personnel have been deployed from China Bay, Muttur for additional security.
The tense sitation is reported to have arisen when illegal sand miners had protested against the arrest of three individuals who were arrested for sand mining.
However, two suspects have jumped into a nearby river and fled the area while suspect was arrested.

Three suspects engaged in illegal sand mining in Kandalkadu, Kinniya had evaded custody due to a tense situation which erupted in the area following a raid.
However, one suspect had later been arrested while two others are still at large, Navy Spokesman said adding that the raid was conducted today (Jan 29) on a tip-off.
The tense sitation is reported to have arisen when sand miners had protested against the arrest by Navy personnel and attempted to attack them with the help of area residents. The personnel had fired gunshots in the air in a bid to control the situation.
Meanwhile, Navy officers yesterday seized two illegal sand tipper trucks and arrested seven others who were alleged to have been involved in illegal sand mining.
