Three people identified as brothers of one family have died following a lightning strike in Erlalai, Jaffna last afternoon.
The incident had occured when lightning had struck a makeshift hut located below a coconut tree in which five people had sought shelter due to a sudden downpour in the area.
Three persons had fallen unconscious following the lightning strike while two had sustained hand injuries. They were rushed to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital following the incident.
The victims who were in an unconscious state had succmbed to death upon admission to the hospital. The deceased have been identified as 37-year old R. Suda, 45-year old T. Kannan, and 52-year old K. Mainavathi.
