Three persons, including a husband-wife duo were remanded by Teldeniya Magistrate in connection of the death of a leopard.
Teldeniya Police arrested the three when they were transporting the carcass of the leopard.
Officer in Charge of Teldeniya Police Chief Inspecctor Dusantha Kangara said with body parts separated with the intention of selling skin and flesh separately.
Teldeniya Magistrate and additional District Judge Chanka Karanasuirya ordered the suspects to be remanded till Monday (28).
President of the Environmental Lawyers Forum Shantha Ratnayake PC told the Sunday Times that State involvement is needed to protect leopards that come to the foothills of Hantane range to breed. (LB)
