Three persons who had levelled death threats and demanded a ransom of Rs 100 million from the chief priest of the Dambulla Rajamaha Viharaya were arrested yesterday (Jun 8).
According to the Police, the suspects who had identified themselves as members of an organisation named 'Jawad' had threatened the chief monk via a telephone call on May 20.
Measures had been taken to track down the phone number on which the call had been made, police noted adding that three persons were arrested along with their mobile phones afterwards.
The suspects have been identified as Jayashantha Dissanayake, 25, Prasanna Karunaratne, 19, and Mihindu Gunaratne, 34. They are due to be produced before the Dambulla Magistrate's Court today (Jun 9).
