Three suspects have been arrested while attempting to smuggle foregin cigarettes worth nearly Rs 4 million today (Mar 05).
The arrest was carried out by customs officials at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) when the suspects had arrived from Sharjah, Dubai at around 3:30 am.
Customs officials had seized 354 cartons containing 70,800 cigarettes which were found to have been worth Rs 3,894,000.
The suspects have been identified as 58, 40, and 18-year old residents of Maligawatte.
Further investigations are being carried out by customs officials under the directives of Customs Director (Airport) M.A. Karunaratne.
