Three women have died in a head-on vehicle collision along the Tambuttegama - Anuradhapura main road this morning.
According to the police, the victims included a 23-year old pregnant mother.
The accident had occured when a van which was travelling from Tambuttegama to Anuradhapura had collided with a lorry which had been travelling in the opposite direction.
Three others who sustained injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Anuradhapura hospital. The lorry driver and his assistant too have been hospitalised, police said.
The victims have been identified as residents of Galnewa, Anuradhapura.
Further investigations continue.
