Three youths who had reportedly attempted to attack a group of police officers in Manipay, Jaffna last week have been arrested yesterday (Jul 22).
The incident is said to have taken place on July 20, when police officers had carried out a search operation on six persons who had arrived in three motorcycles.
Police said the search had been carried out upon a tip-off received that the suspects belonging to the 'Ava' criminal group were planning to attack some residents in Manipai.
Five suspects had fled the area while one person had died when police opened fire at the suspects who had attempted to attack them.
The arrested suspects are due to be produced before the Mallakam Magistrate’s Court today.
